Just 20 days to go to the start of the best one design yachting event in the world, In the ocean off the famed Mooloolaba beachfront!
It’s now a truly international event with entries from all over Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong competing to win one of the toughest and most enjoyable Etchells Regattas on the annual sailing calendar.
Leading the way is John Bertrand with his world champion forward hand Ben Lamb, and he has multiple contender World Champion Mark Bulka filling in for the wind whisperer Tom Slingsby! John has been trying to win this regatta for many years, to add it to his trophy cabinet next to the America’s Cup trophy of 1983! Then we have the dream team of Iain Murray, Colin Beashel, and Richie Allanson forming an awesome combination – it’s hard to believe none of these sailors have won our event!
Then we have the Olympic gold medal winner Tom King trying to win it again, and the battle royal should be between (GT) Graeme Taylor and (Chewy) Matthew Chew who are the only skippers to win twice. All up with have 5 previous Etchells World Champion skippers and many crews making this one of the BEST GAMES OF CHESS on the water in the world! Who said I am not biased!

The Sunshine Coast Council who’ve been backing this event since day one and North Sails who once again will be providing a great North Jib to the winner of the Go North prize which will be drawn on presentation night, and if you’re not there when your name is drawn … bad luck! So, make sure you book all your flights out, on the Monday and enjoy the fantastic Mooloolaba Hospitality!
