Frazer Brew selected for national youth team

YOUTH Laser Radial sailor Frazer Brew is on his way Japan as part of the national team to contest the Junior Olympic Cup in Karatsu.

The six-member team of Laser Radial and 420 class sailors are guests of the Japan Youth Exchange program. This week they will be training alongside the Japan youth squad before racing from May 2 to 5.

Frazer spent the past school holidays on Sydney Harbour training out Australia’s national sailing squad base at Middle Harbour Yacht Club.

“I was alongside Australia’s top youth Laser Radial sailors who I only normally get to race against a few times a year, so as you can probably imagine, it was very exciting,” Frazer said.

“It was a delight to see as many as 15 or so 4.7’s and Radials, which made starting a challenge as I think I only managed to get off the line successfully twice.

“Besides from my slight starting incapabilities, once again, it was awesome to have this many boats on a course at one time and will hopefully happen on a more regular basis.”

He returns to the Coast on May 6 in time to head back into the classroom. Balancing his school and elite sailing program will then become Frazer’s focus as he heads towards Laser Radial Youth World Championship in Canada in late July.

“This will be the pinnacle event of 2019, so hopefully I do better than I did last year in Germany,” he added.
