MYC 50th anniversary – youth history snippet
Mooloolaba sisters Fiona and Andrea Charlson were named Sunshine Coast Sportsmen’s Association award winners for January 1987.
The pair were been honoured for their brilliant performance in winning the Australian Junior Sabot Titles in Tasmania.
Fiona, 12, and Andrea, 8, were members of the progressive Mooloolaba Yacht Club Dinghy Sailing Division and benefited from the competitive racing and excellent training program the club provided.
In winning the national title, in Double Trouble II, they become the first Mooloolaba Yacht Club Dinghy Sailing Division sailors to win a national title and the first all-girl crew to win the national junior sabot title.
