Women’s Keelboat Training Success
The ladies had a perfect day for sailing on the Mooloolah River last Saturday on the Sunreef Elliots with lots of opportunity for kite floating, setting, gybing and dropping practise. With Stuart & Danielle Kennedy coaching, the girls soaked up the valuable skills shared by these talented and highly experienced people.
Stuart started dinghy racing at 9 and yacht racing at 14 and has raced in Sydney-Hobarts (2004, 2007, 2010 (2nd Place), Indian Ocean, Southern Ocean & Tasman Sea 2008, Newport Bermuda (2012), Marblehead Halifax (2013) and achieved 2nd in J29 North American Championships (2012). He has also raced Sabot, 29er, Farr Phase 4, Sydney 38, S80, J22, J24, J29, J80, C&C115, Farr 11.6. His qualifications include Yacht Master (Offshore), Commercial Radio Licence, Sea Survival, Marine Engineering and Electrical.
Danielle began sailing dinghies at age 9, racing singlehanded dinghies at 12. She was the 2004 Female Byte World Champion, a 2005 Volvo Youth World competitor – Laser Radial and on the Canadian Sailing Team 2005-2012. Danielle has competed in nine world championships and represented Canada at the 2012 Olympic Games. She enjoys racing small keelboats (J22, J80, J29, Elliott 6m) and looks forward to gaining more offshore experience.
The next training will on Saturday April 14th, meeting at the Mooloolaba Yacht Club clubroom at 9am (upstaris at the Wharf- above Salwater Fish & Chippery). All ladies with some sailing experience are invited to attend. The cost is only $20-. Come along, have fun, learn lots and make new friends.
