Sailing Update 2021
MYC Members – Happy New Year.
2020 has been an interesting time with sailing cancelled until July this year but since then club sailing
has been highly active. Women’s Sailing and Discover Sailing programmes have proven to be very
popular with new members joining regularly throughout the year.
The 26 South Fleet programme has been going well with good participation especially on
Wednesday afternoons. Thank you to those skippers who have been taking passengers out for an
ocean sailing experience on Wednesdays. Everyone seems to return happy and excited with their
experience and once again there have been quite a few full memberships arising from the
experience. I am sure that as more people are introduced to sailing through the Discover Sailing
Programme more members will be wanting to join the fleet sailing on Wednesdays and Sundays.
This year has seen the introduction of the Covid-19 Safe Plans for all aspects of club activities. I
would like to thank skippers and crews for complying with the plans for everyone’s health and
safety. I expect Covid-19 Safe Plans will remain in force for the remainder of the 2020/2021 Sailing
Season. All members and guests are now required to use the QR code when entering the MYC
Clubroom.
The New Year sees the introduction of the Australian Sailing (AS) Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2021-
2024 coming into force as of 01 January 2021. They can be downloaded from the Australian Sailing
website, RRS 2021-2024 Blue Book. There has been a number of changes throughout the document
particularly in the numbering of many of the rules. As a result of these changes, we have a
significantly revised version of the 26South Fleet Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions applicable
from 01 January 2021. Please read these new documents carefully and be familiar with their content
before competing in events in 2021. Thank you to all those who assisted with reviewing the new
version.
New AS Special Regulations Effective from 01 July 2021 have been published and are available to
download. I do not perceive any significant changes from the current Special Regulations, but I
undertake to publish a list of any relevant Category 4 changes that may have arisen. All boat owners
must have a Category 4 Audit From completed and returned to the club prior to sailing in any club
event. We can expect that during 2021 AS will require an actual physical audit of each competing
boat at some time during the sailing season. If and when required, these audits will be offered by
and within the club.
Fleet sailing recommences with a SAMS on Sunday 10th January 2021 with MYC being Duty Club.
I look forward to seeing many boats on the water enjoying the beautiful and challenging sailing
conditions we are fortunate to have in the bay.
Join us for Sailing, Fun and Friendship.
Happy New Year
Mark Coghlan, RC of Sailing MYC.
