Everything Etchells is right here
The 2021 National and Australasian championships (June 9 t0 13) are nearly here ! Following are some regatta notes, links, tips and more…
Race Officials
We need a couple more experienced race officials. If you are coming to Mooloolaba to support a team and/or watch racing, and have some race officiating experience, please contact the MYC office on 0413 227013 or volunteer here.
Crew Available
- If any skippers need a very experienced light crew weighing 53kg – ideal for four up crew – contact Jan Muysken on janmuysken@gmail.com or mobile 0418 283801.
- Ray Waldon (68-69kg). “I’m interested on crewing on an Etchells for the Nationals and was wondering if you know of anyone looking for crew. I own an Etchells and race her on Lake Macquarie NSW, have been sailing since forever, and race overseas (was prior to COVID) as a trimmer on a Farr 40 and previously on a TP52. Happy to take on any role, even foredeck.” To contact Ray, go ray@waldronbros.com or phone 0421766826.
Entry list
We’re at 40! Check out the list here.
Crane
For the early birds, the old Etchells crane will be available from Saturday 5th June. Please, once you have launched your boat, leave the area and park in the trailer park so as not to hinder other boats from launching.
The 90-ton crane will be working from 1-5pm on Wednesday so make sure you have everything together to launch by this time.
If get here early, park your Etchells near the Coastguard (on the western side of the trailer park). But, once you launch your boat, move the trailers to the eastern top-end of the car park for the weekend and be very mindful of other users of the facilities.
You will be parking at your own risk and the MYC takes no responsibility for your boats or trailers as this is a public area.
Lift outs
No boats are to be lifted out of the water on Wednesday other than for an emergency on either crane.
Official Noticeboard
It’s online, go here. Other information will be available from noticeboard at the entrance to MYC clubroom.
Function Update
Due to the large fleet we have modified our hospitality plans – all functions will be run upstairs at The Wharf Mooloolaba in a function area nearby to the MYC clubroom. With great drink prices this should be a good place to hang out and swap stories after racing.
The function schedule is –
- Wednesday 6pm – Welcome party and Regatta Briefing
- Thursday onwards at 6pm – post-race party and issuing of the leader’s bibs each night for both championships.
Note – There will be no sailor’s dinner on Saturday night at the Surf Club as originally planned.
Somewhere to eat after racing
Check out The Wharf – there are now TEN places to eat on site. Asian, Greek, burger, Italian, Latin street food, fish ‘n chips and more. Want to go a more upmarket? Then the stunning Sea Restaurant is the place to book a table.
