Christmas Boat Parade – participants information
What to do on the night of Saturday December 18, from 7pm.

NUMBERS/CORFLUTES
- Collect your number from the MYC office (located at The Wharf Mooloolaba, on the 1st floor and above Rice Boi), on one of the following dates –
- Wednesday 15th, Thursday 16th or Friday 17th from 4pm to 6pm, or Saturday 18th from 10am to 12pm.
- Put your BOAT number on your starboard (right) side of the bow so the judges can see them.
- You will need to shine a torch on your boat number when going past the judges at The Wharf Mooloolaba.
- Put your HOUSE number on the canal-side of your property so that it can be seen by the Judges.
WEATHER
- The Club will monitor the BOM website for any significant weather conditions.
- You will be notified of any change to the Parade course by VHF Channel 77, by mobile and through the Parade’s lead boat. Please keep your radio tuned to VHF Channel 77 from 6.30pm and during the Parade.
- Any decision to cancel the Parade will be made by the Event Manager based on the conditions in the lead-up and at the start time. The decision may be made as late as 7pm or could be made during the Parade, depending on the weather conditions.
- It is the boat owner’s responsibility to participate in the Parade and/or continue or withdraw.

BOATS
- The Parade starts in front of The Wharf Mooloolaba – refer to the course diagram.
- Please maintain a speed of 3.8 knots.
- The course will take about 1.5 hours to complete.
- Please keep in boats number order and not push past other boats during the Parade to help prevent the risk of collision and confusion.
THE FLEET
- The Parade fleet will be led by club boat Arthur Hodge (a powerboat), followed by entry number 1.
- Line up in number order as per your BOAT number allocation.
- Meet in front of The Wharf Mooloolaba commercial marina which sits in front of the precinct.
- Meeting time is 6.45pm.
- Start Time is 7pm.
- The Coastguard Vessel and Water Police will follow the Parade.
PARADE COURSE
- Please stay in the Parade in BOAT number order, if possible.
- ROUND ALL LAID BUOYS TO PORT (left).
- Start from The Wharf at 7pm.
- Follow the lead boat MYC Arthur Hodge towards Elanora Crescent.
- Leave the laid buoy (1) to port (left).
- Head towards Mooloolah Island round the laid buoy (2) to port (left) then round the laid buoy (3) to port (left).
- Head back past Minyama Island. Turn starboard (right) into the main Kawana Canal and head to Lawrie’s Marina.
- Round the laid buoy (4) to port (left) then round the laid buoy (5) to port (left).
- Then head down the canal and turn starboard (right) at the corner, to head back towards La Balsa Park buoy (6). Round it to port (left).
- Finally, head back to cruise past The Wharf Mooloolaba where you will be judged as you pass the MYC at The Wharf Mooloolaba where the Parade will finish.
SAFETY TIPS
- There will be a number of small craft participating in the Parade. Skippers need to ensure a good look-out is maintained.
- There may also be unregistered vessels that join the procession from time to time.
- Please be vigilant.
- There is a tight corner at Kawana (at the end of the main canal) and caution needs to be observed with incoming and outgoing vessels. You may need to vary your speed to ensure safe passing.

The Water Police will have a presence on the water during the Parade.
PLEASE ENSURE
- You observe the rules of the ‘road’ and passing boats.
- The safe handling of your boat.
- You carry sufficient life jackets for all onboard.
- You use your navigation lights.
- Don’t Drink and Drive!
PRIZE WINNERS AND PRIZEGIVING
- The Judges will be located at The Wharf Mooloolaba.
- Prize winners will be advised by phone as soon as possible after the Parade.
- The Prizegiving will take place at the Mooloolaba Yacht Club’s clubroom which is located at The Wharf Mooloolaba (on the canal-side of the complex, on the First Floor above the Rice Boi Restaurant).
- The prizegiving is on Sunday 19 December 2021 starting at 4pm.
- As a Parade participant, you and your family are welcome to attend.
