Stevo’s Blog

Hi All!!

Been a while since the last Blog as I’ve been away sailing up north at Hammo where Bumblebee 4 sailed very well with a 2nd and a 3rd under the MYC banner. Sea Bass sailed at Airlie Beach race week with a 3rd with Koko also sailing at Airlie Beach. Witchy Woman held the MYC banner at Magnetic Island with a 3rd.  All in all, the MYC was well represented at all three sailing events with overall good results.

Ok then back home. Lots happening! But first. Your club requires some more volunteers for club duties that are outside the day to day sailing activities. We have a social gathering place at the wharf where alcohol is served. Luckily there are a few dedicated volunteers doing most of the openings and as I’m sure you know; people burn out when the workload is constant. Your MYC requires help with the Bar, “that’s from open to finish” cleaning, rubbish etc., and just things in general.

Back to MYC club events. The Lisa Blair event was a huge success with everybody leaving with a good idea of the high and lows of her solo trip around the Antarctica southern continent. Not for everybody but well-done Lisa. We have convened another of these informative meetings with well-known local identity, Jon Sayer. Apart from the many yachts he has built and sailed in the 2 handed Melbourne to Osaka races, single handed New Plymouth to Mooloolaba and countless ocean races in Australia, he also was awarded Australian yachtsperson of the year in 1992. Will be a very interesting night with many stories and experiences to share. This event will happen shortly, so stay tuned. Your MYC has many local world renown identities, and these people will be asked to share their stories.

The sailing program is out and well-done Mark Coghlan and helpers for the finished product. I printed out the program and attached it to my fridge so as to keep up with the many events that are on offer.

Stay tuned with the Mooloolaba Yacht Club.
