James Hodgson defends local match racing crown
Mooloolaba Yacht Club’s James Hodgson has successfully defended his Sail Mooloolaba Match Racing Championship title over the weekend.
Up against teams from Melbourne, Sydney and Southport along with teams from the MYC’s youth squad, Hodgson had his work cut out for him throughout the three days of competition on the river at Mooloolaba in front of The Wharf Mooloolaba.
Hodgson raced with a new crew combination of Cam Gundy from Sydney’s Cruising Yacht Club of Australia and James Beveridge, 13, from the MYC.
He didn’t have a clean path to the Final, but then won the first three of the-best-of-five matches with each match almost too close for comfort.
“The results don’t really reflect the level of competition,” Hodgson said.
In second overall was the Melbourne skipper Hayden Brown and his Sandringham Yacht Club team.
