MYC Women’s Team met with torrential rain in Sydney
Seven members of the MYC Women’s Sailing team travelled to Sydney for the Helly Hansen Women’s Challenge hosted by Manly Yacht club on Sunday March 17th. Alas they were met with torrential rain. Undaunted however they ventured forth aboard Peter’s beautiful Northshore 340 ‘Misky’ to familiarize themselves with the boat and were enjoying a sail in brisk conditions when the understandable announcement was made that the event was to be postponed to another date as a severe weather warning had been issued and due to the heavy rain visibility was poor.
The team- Danielle Kennedy (tactician & skipper), Tanya Kelly (helm),
Sarah Johnson (jib & mast), Del Morrison (pit), Eloise Jessett (jib), Kristy Lee (main) & Kerry Teed (foredeck) all enjoyed the sail out to the heads and their visit to Sydney despite the inclement weather & are looking forward to next year’s event.
The next event for the team will be the Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta held over the Queens Birthday weekend in June on Port Phillip Bay and hosted by the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron. There are currently 2 teams preparing with the possibility of a third team on the horizon so please let us know if you may be interested in joining this fun and competitive event and great group of women.
