MYC Teams competing in Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta
Mooloolaba Yacht Club is excited to have two teams from their Women’s Sailing Skills Development Program representing them at the 2019 Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta. The event is hosted by the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron in St Kilda, Melbourne over the Vistorian Queens Birthday long weekend, June 8-10.
This is the 29th year the event has been held and has attracted a record 40 teams racing this year. Every state in Australia and New Zealand will have teams representing them this year.
Local women boat owners who skipper their vessels combine with vessels generously loaned to teams for the 3 days of racing on Port Phillip Bay.
This will be the second year that MYC has sent two teams. The teams performed well in 2018 achieving a third in the PHS division and the ‘Most Improved Trophy’. The women are hoping to better their 2018 performance this year after another year of training and experience.
But they will be up against some tough competition with a number of Volvo Round the World competitors & winning team members, Olympic Medal winners and competitors (including our own Danielle Kennedy) and Australian representative sailors amongst the teams.
Our teams will be racing in the S80 class division which numbers 12 boats in the fleet as well as AMS & EHC.
The teams members are:
‘Merak’ team- Tanya Kelly, Abbie Glenister, Gaye Hoole, Kristie Hatch, Kristen Davidson & Kerry Teed
‘Bon Vivant’ team: Danielle Kennedy, Karen Young, Sarah Johnson, Kerri Smith, Kristen Davidson & Del Morrison.
Best of luck!
