Stacey Jackson competing in Inaugural MYC SheSAILS Mooloolaba Women’s Winter Regatta together with childhood team-mates.

Stacey Jackson skipper of Wildoats X in the 2018 Sydney to Hobart Yacht race finishing 6th across the line and second in the IRC division as well as having a string of other sailing achievements has snuck into the entry pool of MYC’s inaugural SheSails Mooloolaba Women’s Winter Regatta together with childhood team-mates Kristen Davidson & Carmen Barney in team ‘Backstitch’.

Stacey who owns Nautibags and hand makes all her products herself has kindly donated one of her unique bags as the Encouragement Award. Her bags are all made from recycled/ up-cycled sails and are beautiful. Stacey said ‘I grew up sailing in Mooloolaba and was never a place-getter but just loved sailing. So I’d like to encourage that!’

The regatta will be held over the weekend of June 29 & 30 seeing eight teams of 3 to 4 women competing in the club’s four Elliot 6 boats. The events will be short course windward-leeward races making for close and exciting racing.

Weather permitting, the races will be held offshore in the Mooloolaba Bay or alternatively in the Mooloolah River.

The event has attracted teams from Newcastle and Cleveland as well as local teams. Whilst individuals from Brisbane, Gold Coast and locally who have expressed interest in racing in the event have joined together to form teams also.

Teams so far include:

Helly Hansen, a strong supporter of women’s sailing and always a motivator for teams to do better has generously offered prizes. Just the reminder of ‘think of the jacket’ can see women hiking out harder than they thought they were capable of.

Australian Sailing’s SheSails together with the Sunshine Coast Council are also generous supporters of the event.

Many local businesses haven’t hesitated to assist the event with the supply of goods and support. A huge thank you goes to:

Sailing Gear for Women & Girls, The Posy Company, Noosa Black, Noosa Basics, Kenilworth Dairies, The Ginger Factory, Black Lemonade Bakery, The Booking Box, My Pharmacy Redcliffe,  Amanda Davidson, Newport Mooloolaba.

There is one team available at the moment so don’t miss out on the opportunity to join this fun event for some great sailing. Please contact Kristie on 0402 794 916 if you would like to nominate a team or it you would like to join a team. As Stacey said- it’s all about loving sailing and we’d love to have you out on the water.

This event is Proudly Supported by the Sunshine Coast Council’s grants program.
