MYC Women’s Sailing Skills Development program
through the Australian Sports Foundation
The Mooloolaba Yacht Club’s Women’s Sailing Skills Development Program is for women of all ages and backgrounds who would like to improve their sailing skills as crew and/or as helms.
Women train both in the classroom and on the water on the MYC Elliot 6m keelboats to develop sailing skills and confidence in a supportive team environment.
The program aims to empower women to overcome fears and barriers, build self-confidence and to connect with their local community. It’s loads of fun whilst enjoying the great outdoors with a sense of freedom, adventure and achievement.
From participating in the MYC Women’s Skill Development Program, there is the opportunity to compete in several women’s regattas across Australia as a member of the MYC Women’s Sailing Representative Teams.
In their first showing, the MYC Women’s Sailing Representative Teams placed 1st and 2nd in the Newcastle Yacht Club She SAILS Regatta. Two teams represented MYC at their first Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta with one placing 3rd in the PHS division, whilst the other team received “The Most Improved “award. Great outcomes from their first year of competition!
Each year, MYC Women’s Sailing Representative Teams compete in –
- Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta (VIC)
- Mooloolaba Women’s Keelboat Regatta (QLD)
- Townsville Yacht Club GaLS Regatta (QLD)
- Newcastle Yacht Club SheSAILS Regatta (NSW)
- Northern Territory Women’s Keelboat Regatta (NT)
