Entries now open-MYC Club Championships- Zhik Australian eSailing National Challenge

Sailors all around the country will soon be competing to be recognised as the newest champion, with Australian Sailing launching the Zhik Australian eSailing National Challenge.  We are excited to announce that on Saturday May 16th at 1pm, MYC members will be competing in a series of five consecutive (two drops) races on the Virtual Regatta platform to be crowned the inaugural Zhik Australian eSailng National Challenge MYC Club Champion. This champion will then represent MYC at the State finals (May 22-24) and if successful here will then race in the National Finals on May 28th.

Governed by the World Sailing Virtual Rules of Sailing, the Zhik Australian eSailing National Challgenge closely matches the real-world rules and formats that govern on-the-water racing. The in-game ‘Sailing School’ provides a clear explanation of the sport and a new and effective learning tool to familiarise players with the strategies, tactics and terminology of sailing.

Australian Sailing would like to thank our partners at Zhik for their support of the Australian eSailing National Challenge and for their ongoing support of sailing in Australia.

MYC has a number of members who have been using the free platform racing against people from all over the world 24/7, as well as against each other at pre-arranged times for several weeks now. They describe the racing as exciting and fun! There’s lots of learning opportunities as you watch for wind strength variations across the course and wind shifts to work out your courses and of course the rules of racing.

MYC encourages members to enter this event and hopes you will enjoy this new sailing platform.

How to get started in Virtual Regatta:

Now is the perfect time to start eSailing, especially now that we have to stay at home. It’s a fantastic way to stay in touch with your sailing friends and continue racing and practicing your tactics.
Virtual Regatta (eSailing) Inshore is aimed at everyone from expert sailors to newbies and can bring the excitement of small sailboat racing to your home. It’s easy to use and also has a training feature so people can easily learn how to use the game or even learn the basics ofsailing. You don’t need to pay to use Virtual Regatta normally (you only need to pay the $14.99 if you wish to become a VIP member which allows you to organize your own races. There are a number of race helps which are often provided for you (best VMG, wind shadow, time to start, lay lines…) which can also be won or purchased. It’s as simple as visiting their website from a laptop or PC or downloading the app on a smartphone or iPad and clicking ‘play now’ on either the inshore or offshore game. You can then enter the game and learn how to use it and compete against others all around the world.
