James Hodgson and his Sunshine Coast Sailing team started today’s Musto International Youth Match Racing Championship repecharge with brilliant results.

While the top teams from yesterday sat out the repecharge, Hodgson’s SCST racing in 18 to 20 knots on Sydney Harbour, won six from their seven matches to secure a quarter finals berth in the event which has teams from USA, New Zealand, The Netherlands and Australia and is being conducted by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia.

Their opponent for the quarter final matches was New Zealand’s George Anyon. He had previously placed second in the round robin series.

Hodgson’s team put up a solid defence losing the first match, wining the second, but then losing by a small margin in the third match.

Hodgson’s father Mike said, “in the final race they were pushed over the line at start. The team then came back to about three boat lengths at the finish”.

This result secures Anyon a place in the top four for the semi-finals and forces Hodgson’s team to battle it out tomorrow among the remaining teams for fifth to eighth place.

Full regatta results are live on the CYCA website.
