RC of Sailing Australia Day Regatta Update
Thank you to those skippers, boat owners and crews that took part in the Australia Day Regatta events. The weather was perfect on both days, the breeze started light each day but gathered strength and consistency as the days progressed. There was a strong current against us heading towards the Mooloolaba Waverider each day causing some of us to have a few extra tacks to make the mark.
Four boats entered the BWS/LOPS race on Saturday and six boats in the Interclub Bay Challenge events on Sunday – Brilliant Pearl and Ocean Warrior completed both days events. Congratulations to Geoff Dews and the Brilliant Pearl crew for winning the Australia Day Regatta Trophy.
Special thanks to SCYC for providing us with “Seaberg” as the start boat for Sunday’s events and to Tom Johnstone for being driver for the day.
Many thanks to Suzanne Mabbott for starting, taking times and providing results for both days and thanks to our other volunteers over the weekend – John Edwards, Ian Horricks, Karen Young, Stewart Kennedy and Warren Myles. No events are possible without our volunteers.
SCYC is duty club this week – WAMS and on Sunday, 3 February for Lady Helm #3 / SAMS.
Ladies please contact Suzanne if you would like to participate on an MYC boat as a helmperson or crew.
See you on the water.
Mark Coghlan, Rear Commodore of Sailing MYC
