RC of Sailing Members Update, January 12
Welcome to 2022 and the continuation of the 2021-22 Sailing Season. Wind, sea and bar conditions have not been pleasant for sailing over the previous week or so, however, three MYC boats sailed in the first SAMS Race in light conditions on Sunday; Sea Bass, Boudicea and Blew Bayou.
Well done skippers for getting your boats out onto the water early in the New Year. Congratulations to Jon Cray and crew on taking Line Honours as well the Handicap win. I expect to see more boats appear as the weeks go on.
The Sailing Calendar carries on with Rum Runners Series recommencing this Friday, 14 January. SAMS and WAMS continue as scheduled but we will need to replace a SAMS with the postponed LBS Race #2 from 05 Dec 2021. Race # 3 in the WHS is scheduled for 06 February – only 3 weeks away.
There are no amendments to the 2021-2022 NOR and SIs, however, if you haven’t reviewed the SIs recently please do so and ensure you have a hard copy on your boat. Please note that AS Rule 46 is in force as of 01 January 2022. The last couple of bay races of 2021 saw some skippers being confused about the Start-Finish line – please carefully read Clause 8, “The Race Start / Finish” of the SIs for all details, in particular clause 8.3 detailing finishing by crossing between Marks N and D.
The GPS positions for the Start – Finish Line can be found on the website goto 26South Fleet Laid Marks as can the bearings to each of our marks from Mark N goto Start and Finish Line with Bearings to Marks
I encourage all members to get involved in our club’s activities, either in sailing or volunteering on-shore or on-water. Non-sailing members are welcome to come sailing, especially on Wednesday afternoons. Contact Suzanne on the MYC mobile number for more information. You will need to obtain a SailPass for the day.
I am looking forward to some exciting sailing and ongoing fun and friendship for the remainder of the 2022 season. Please contact me if you have any questions or suggestions for our sailing activities.
