RC of Sailing Members Update, June 28

Dear Boat Owners, Skippers and Active Sailing Members

Firstly, I would like to apologize for being absent from sailing and club events since our very successful Women’s Regatta in mid-May. I am hoping to be around again in the near future and sailing Ocean Warrior later in July. Unfortunately, we are coming off the worst sailing season we have encountered since I joined MYC. The disruption to bay sailing has been beyond our control but I believe we can look forward to better conditions in the new season.

MYC and SCYC have amicably agreed to dissolve the combined sailing format in the new 2022-2023 season.  I believe the combined events have been beneficial over the last years with good relations and cooperation being successfully developed between the clubs, which I am sure will continue.

The new Sailing Season and Calendar with be commencing in September 2022. As such, MYC will again have our own sailing documents and sailing calendar.

I would like to have a meeting of boats owners, skippers and active sailing members in the MYC clubroom on Thursday 14th July commencing at 18:00. We can discuss sailing events and formats and the calendar prior to the development of the racing documents for 2022-2023 season.

All input is welcome, but we would prefer members submit their written ideas and recommendations by 1800 on Monday 11 July. This will enable a reasonable agenda to be arranged prior to the meeting and useful discussion points. Please submit your suggestions to mailto:mooloolabayachtclub@bigpond.com

I will also be requesting members nominate to be on the MYC Sailing Committee. This is not an onerous task and MYC requires a sailing committee to discuss and review the proposed racing documents for 2022-2023 and any possible changes to SIs and Sailing Calendar that may eventuate throughout the season. You do not require previous involvement nor more than basic knowledge of the RRS, but you do need to be an active skipper or sailor.

Please strongly consider attending this meeting as it does determine the format for a successful club sailing season in 2022-2023.

Cheers and I’m looking forward to getting back on the water and a great season ahead.

Mark Coghlan, Rear Commodore of Sailing
