RC of Sailing Members Update, September 5
Rear Commodore Sailing Update on Sailing Season 2022-23.
The Sailing Documents for the 2022-23 Sailing Season are complete and will all be available on the MYC website this week. The new season opens on Sunday, 25th September with a SAMS-NPS.
Click here for the 2022-23 Sailing Season Documents.
The MYC Notice of Race (NOR) and Sailing Instructions (SIs) are very similar to previous seasons. An important change is the return to VHF Channel 77 as the MYC channel for all radio communications for offshore racing events. Owners and skippers please read all the documents carefully as there may be minor changes throughout. Contact me if there are there are errors, or the information is unclear.
The 2022-23 Sailing Calendar reflects the consensus of the meeting of MYC boat owners, skippers and active sailing members, held in July, to discuss the composition of sailing events for the 2022-23 Sailing Season.
SAMS events continue throughout the season; however, the number of SAMS has been significantly reduced and they will be interspersed throughout the season with a number of other social sailing or novelty sailing events.
WAMS are continuing as will the current pursuit handicapping system.
Other offshore racing series Blue Water Series (BWS) and Women’s Helm Series (WHS) continue plus we have reintroduced the Short Course Series (SCS). A new series, the River Series, has been introduced where offshore boat crews will sail the Elliotts in the river using a similar format to the ongoing Rum Runners Series.
All series consist of four event days. When offshore or Mooloolah River bar conditions prevent offshore sailing, SAMS events may be replaced by river sailing.
River sailing will continue with the current events on the calendar, Rum Runners on Fridays, Women’s Regattas, Mixed MYC Teams Regattas and Mixed Interclub Regattas, Discover Sailing and other events that may present themselves.
More communication options re upcoming race events and sailing information are now available to MYC sailing members:
MYC Active Sailors Group accessible using (Facebook) Messenger,
MYC – Owners and Skippers Group using WhatsApp (contact me, Mark Coghlan, for access)
I will also continue to communicate event updates via individual messages to owners and skippers and inform owners and skippers as early as possible (preferably the evening prior to an event) if an event is to be postponed or cancelled.
With the commencement of the new season, we will be changing to SailSys for our sailing administration which will include boat and crew registration, event entry and payments, handicapping and race management.
The MYC Sailing Committee comprises RC Sailing (currently myself), Peter Bradford, Suzanne Mabbott and Robert Stevenson (Stevo).
The Sailing Committee strongly encourage all sailing members to participate in all events in both river and offshore sailing. The greater the participation, the greater the enjoyment for everyone and development of the club.
Join us for Sailing. Fun and Friendship.
Go MYC!
Mark Coghlan, Rear Commodore of Sailing
