Steps charity of choice for this year’s Boat Parade
The Mooloolaba Yacht Club are proud to announce STEPS Charity as the beneficiary of the 2016 Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade.
STEPS Charity work to create brighter futures for people with a disability. They promote equality and provide opportunities for independence and improved quality of life. The charity believes in strengthening the capacity of individuals to fulfil their dreams and become confident, valuable contributors to their community.
STEPS’ humble beginnings were sparked way back in 1989 when a group of parents, all of whom had a child with a disability, felt there wasn’t enough support in place to allow their children to achieve true independence. So they did something about it! United in their passion STEPS was established, and they’re still working to empower individuals and create a positive impact in our communities.
STEPS Charity aims to make a big impact in the lives of those they work with and the communities they work in. In April 2016 construction of the STEPS Pathways Project started and the Australian first is one of the most exciting developments in STEPS Group Australia’s 30 year history.
The Project will allow young people with disabilities the opportunity to live independently in purpose built homes. A life skills Pathways Program will be delivered on site with 24 hour a day support on hand. The Program will teach participants the skills they need to live in their own home and make decisions and choices about the way they want to live.
