Two MYC teams heading to Newcastle for the She Sails @NCYC Open Regatta this weekend

Eight of our member women are bound for Newcastle to represent the Mooloolaba Yacht Club (MYC) at the She Sails @ Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club (NCYC) Open Regatta  being held over the weekend of November 9th and 10th.

Last year MYC was represented by two teams also and raced on NCYC’s fleet of 6 Force 24 keelboats in a one-day event. The teams had a very successful regatta achieving first and second placings. This year NCYC have purchased eight Elliot 6’s and up to 16 teams will be racing over the now extended two-day event.

The teams have grown from the very successful MYC Women’s Skills Development Program which offers regular sailing in the Elliot 6 keelboats on the Mooloolah River or Mooloolaba Bay.

They have been training regularly over the past weeks in preparation for some stiff competition from the south.

The series of windward-leeward races in what is currently forecast to be windy conditions will test all teams.

The event is held on the Hunter River upstream from NCYC providing the locals with a colourful spectacle from the nearby shore.

MYC Women will also be represented at a number of other inter and intra-state events in 2020, including the Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta in Melbourne in June, The She Sails @ Mooloolaba Winter Regatta in late June, the Sunshine Coast Ocean Regatta off Mooloolaba in July, the She Sails Gals Regatta in Townsville in September along with a number of other regattas.

If you may be interested in joining the MYC Women’s Skills Development Program or would like more information please call Gaye on 0410 477 802 or email women@mooloolabayachtclub.com.au. Its a fun and friendly way to upskill no matter what your pathway is- competition or the enjoyment of sailing.
