Unknowns make it 7 for women’s regatta

The seventh entry is in for this weekend’s annual Mooloolaba Yacht Club’s Women’s Keelboat Regatta and it’s a team of unknowns, literally.

None of them have met each other, yet, but that won’t dampen their enthusiasm for the event and for the chance to take on the other six all-women teams on the tight course located on the Moololah River at Mooloolaba.

The skipper is Laser Radial class 2012 Olympian for Canada, Danielle Kennedy. She has been a huge contributor to the success of the Mooloolaba Yacht Club’s Women’s Program before she moved to Mackay to complete her medical studies.

Her Bingpot! crew are Alexandra Helsham from Manly 16ft Skiff Sailing Club and Mooloolaba local Margaret Scott.

“Since we don’t know each other, I’d say our goal for the weekend will be to enjoy our time out on the water,” Kennedy says.

The team will be representing Sydney’s Cruising Yacht of Australia where Kennedy will next be based after completing her time in Mackay.

Racing on the club’s 6m training keelboats in the Mooloolaba Women’s Keelboat Regatta is on Saturday and Sunday.

Spectators will be able to easily see, and hear, the racing, from the prime viewing location of The Wharf Mooloolaba from 9.30am both days.
