Virtual racing- it’s great fun!

As the COVID-19 pandemic keeps us off the water over winter, we invite you to join us in the Virtual Regatta game for some short, sharp racing to keep us all sane while we’re stuck at home!

There is a momentum of openness to change in all parts of the community at this time and whilst we all can’t wait to get back on the water, this will do a lot to keep our tactical skills honed and the spirit of competition alive.About virtual racing: the most popular eSailing application is ‘Virtual Regatta’.

There is a ‘Sailing School’ to get you started/ familiar with the game. The application has an on-water umpire and applies the Racing Rules of Sailing. eSailing via Virtual Regatta Inshore is also recognised by World Sailing and you can put in your World Sailing Sailor ID if you wish to.

It takes a little practise to get used to it, but once you do, it’s addictive and you are guaranteed to have loads of fun and learn lots too (racing rules, favored sides, knocks/ lifts…). We already have at least eight members racing other boats from all over the world as well as against each other.

Join us every Saturday afternoon at 4pm for a series of 3 races- your access code to these private MYC club races is 1313. Look forward to seeing you on the ‘virtual’ water. If there is enough interest we could expand the opportunities with more racing and virtual Regattas too.
