You’re invited to join an MYC women’s team!


Expressions of Interest invited for a MYC women’s team for next year’s Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta!

The Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta, run by the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron will be held over the Queen’s Birthday long-weekend, June 9-11, 2018.  This is a women only regatta.

Generous boat owners lend their boats to teams who don’t have a boat. (such as MYC).

There will be an entry fee per person of approx. $80- (to be confirmed).

Accommodation is likely to be approx. $70- per person per night, twin share.

As it is hoped that a familiarization sail will be organized for Friday the 8th, it is anticipated that team members would need to be in Melbourne by Thurs 7th, resulting in 5 nights accommodation if returning home on Tues 12th.

Airfares will need to be arranged individually, but suggested times for group travel can be provided.

There will be a crew briefing on the Friday night June 8th and the venue for this offers an a-la-carte menu with prices ranging from $15- $32/ meal.

On the Saturday night there will be the ‘Crew Dinner’ which includes a meal & drink for less than $50pp.

Sunday is an “eat local” night, which is optional. The organizers line up one of their local restaurants to put on a meal and drink ‘special’ for competitors.

The Monday afternoon is for presentations, and includes finger food for approximately $30-pp.

Other expenses to consider would be breakfasts, lunches, airport transfers, insurance and a gift for the boat owner.

So in total we anticipate costs to be around $1000- pp to attend the event.

MYC is endeavouring to source funding to assist with some of these costs but this cannot be guaranteed.

As the event is in June in Melbourne, it is likely to be cold, so team members must be able to provide their own warm and wet weather gear. (If needed- add them to your Christmas list!)

All MYC AWKR team members must be a current financial member of a sailing club & hold a current Australian Sailing (Silver) card.

MYC hopes to provide club shirts (specifically for the event) which would be required to be worn at regatta functions.

The aim is to have 4 team training sessions prior to the event on keel boats off Mooloolaba- one a month from February- and attendance at 3 of these sessions would be compulsory for team inclusion for safety reasons.

IMPORTANT- ALL TEAM MEMBERS WILL NEED TO BE IN MELBOURNE FROM THURS EVENING JUNE 7th TO MONDAY EVENING JUNE 11th.
